We are delighted to launch the Dorchester Civic Society Talks Programme 2022 with the first talk in our Heritage Series on Tuesday 1st March. This will be a welcome return to in-person events at the Dorford Centre.
Heritage architecture is a defining characteristic of Dorchester, forming a vital part of the town’s history, culture and economy. Preserving, protecting and promoting these buildings has never been more important. But the process and practice of restoring and adapting heritage assets has become increasingly costly and complex.
Crickmay Stark is considered one of the most influential architects in shaping Dorchester’s built environment, past and present. The firm was founded in 1999 following the amalgamation of two of the longest practicing architects in the area, John Stark & Partners whose origins can be traced back to 1867 and the Crickmay Partnership who were established in 1850.
So it is with great pleasure that our guest speaker Anthony Williams, director at Crickmay Stark, will be sharing his experiences of restoring Dorchester’s listed buildings and conservation areas. Drawing on local examples, Anthony will provide a fascinating insight into how protected structures from the town’s public, commercial and private buildings can be conserved and adapted to the demands of today.
Our Talks Programme is open to all. Visitors and new members are very welcome. Talks are free for DCS Members and £3 for Non-Members to help cover costs.
The Dorford Centre has appropriate Covid procedures in place and the seating arrangement will be spaced to ensure safety is a priority.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.
